Our Achievements

1. The Formation of Cadet Commandery and Junior Auxiliary

Perhaps one of major achievements of the Order since its inauguration in Achimota, was the almost simultaneous inauguration of the Cadets  and Junior Auxiliary Members. Over the period, these young members have played exemplary roles in the Church and in the Order as well. Our Cadets have risen through all the phases of exemplification to become Noble Brothers.

Bros Fidelis Anumu, Sebastian Addah, Prince Reginald Amuah, John Amemakalor, and George Owusu Ababio are all Noble Brothers. Indeed, Bro. Fidelis Anumu is a Past President of the Commandery.

Mention must also be made of Noble Sister Georgina Twumasi, who has risen to become the Respected President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the St. Thomas More Ladies Auxiliary No.419, Achimota.

2. Evangelisation Mission of the Church

Members of the Order are enjoined to be moved by the original ideas of the formation to pay special attention to works that support the Evangelisation Mission of the Church. Our Physical Support for the Church is Sine Qua None.

We deliberately encourage our members to be Catechists, Sectors, Ushers, Altar Boys and Girls, Members of the Music Ministry, Seminarians, Postulants, among others.

3. Spiritual Retreat Sessions

As Practicing Catholics and in our efforts aimed at striving to maintain our status, we have endeavoured year-after -year to undertake spiritual Retreat Sessions. Such had taken us to the following locations:

  • Franciscan Valley, Saltpond;
  • Koforidua Diocese Retreat Centre;
  • Archbishop Andoh Cathecethical Centre, Kordiabe;
  • SVD Home in Mccarthy Hill;
  • SVD Retreat Centre, Adoagyiri.

We have spent spiritual reflection periods in our Parish as well.

4. Physical Support

4.1

Provision of Plastic Chairs

Supply of 200 plastic chairs for the seating of members of the Parish as our numbers increased in St. Thomas More and we also needed to transit to St. John Fisher Church.

4.2

Roofing of Parish Building

During the construction of the church building in St. John Fisher, the Order paid for Fifty Percent (50%) of the cost of roofing the building.

4.3

Support for Developmental Project

Our members, Maj John Sasu Nyarko and Capt John K. K. Amemakalor, respectively played significant roles in the acquisition of pews and supervision of the construction of the Rectory.

4.4

Construction of Altar

The Commandery built the Altar of the SS Thomas More and John Fisher Catholic Church and the Altar of the Marian Grotto as well as the Ambo of the SS Thomas More and John Fisher Church. The fixing of the Constantine Cross on the Ambo and the Altar support are by our financial support. Let it be known and recorded in the history and annals of the Church, that the Lectern, however, was provided by a Parishioner. He was moved by the efforts of the Order to complete the Sanctuary construction.

4.5

Conference Room Chairs

On our 37th Anniversary celebrations, in 2022 and after the restrictions on Covid-19 had been relaxed, the Parish challenged us to provide 37 Conference Room Chairs for the Rectory. This has been done.

4.6

Construction of Sunday School Block

The Order was requested by the Church soon after the dedication of the SS Thomas More and John Fisher Catholic Church to provide a place for the Sunday School Mass and Catechetical Teaching Lessons. The Order, in obedience to the Church, provided a shed which was upgraded into a room. Soon after, the PPC and other lay societies found the room ideal for meetings and other social events, including serving as a holding room for funeral receptions. Eventually, the structure was knocked down to make room for the construction of the beautiful structure that exists today.

4.7

Logistical Support

The Order supports our Clergy and other Lay Ministers in many and diverse ways. We have given our newly Ordained Priests, computers, items various pastoral and social uses over the period.

4.8

Time with the Priest

As part of our support for our Clergy, we have for the last 20 years instituted an Annual Time with the Priests to celebrate the Yuletide with our otherwise forgotten leaders in the festive period.

4.9

Our Vehicle of Charity

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is the official Charity lay organisation of the Order. In fulfilment of our Commitment to support the Society, we make annual contributions in cash and in kind to support the Charity works of the Society.

4.10

Corpus Christi Procession

The Brothers from the Commandery have been the palanquin bearers during the Corpus Christi Procession in SS Thomas More and John Fisher Catholic Church.

4.11

Other Charity Activities

Our charity works have seen the Order support the education of Parishioners’ wards at Secondary and Tertiary Education levels.

4.12

Professional Support

Our members have in diverse ways provided jobs not only to members but also to the members of the Parish as a whole
